First up, Readers, meet Karl.
Karl, meet Readers :-)
Karl was way easier to put together than we expected:
and no fights were had :-) The hardest part was putting the cushions in their covers.
I haven't had much time to put the basement totally together for a proper reveal (I'm SO not that girl haha) but I did promise a photo of Karl and even a stacked book or two:
The MASSIVE tv sitting on Ikea "Torsby" sideboards:
Yes, it is so big that the Torsby is bending a bit in the middle. Hubs is going to put the tv on the wall so that the 'sway' isn't permanent :-)
It is really hard to take a pic of the wallpaper without a reflective ring - the paper isn't a foil paper but it may as well be!
So there you have it. You've met Karl and have absolute proof that we finished wallpapering the wall and didn't give up after three strips. We have a little more 'decor' stuff planned for down there but for the time being, it is nice having a room in the house that is clean and not filled with bathroom/construction junk.
We also followed someone's (very smart) advice and finished the job off with a glass of wine. Well worth it, don't you think? A little dusty, a lot tired, and very happy that the job is DONE.
So that, my friends is THAT. The END of the basement reno :-) Thank you for sticking with me through this long process. Your encouragement to hold out for perfection (ahem, the bathroom tile) and to do everything in the right order definitely paid off and kept me focused and on track.

Thanks Amanda - the wallpaper and the sofa are my favourite parts too.
We can't get over the transformation. I'll have to do a proper before and after for ya haha
Congrats on your new sofa too! We are just so happy to have a couch that is comfy (hubs already christened it with a nap :-).
Ohh I'm glad you like it! We really stuck with the plan - I made a mood board a long time ago and it has worked out (except for the ottoman). Love it when plans work!
I KNOW. It is HUGE.
J is going to try to hang it this weekend so hopefully that will make it a bit less imposing.
Karl is the best quality Ikea item we've ever purchased. Sturdy as anything, the cushions are great and the fabric seems really durable. Go for it!
You are crackin me up with this home reno stuff girl. OK GIANT tv. Doesn't look so bad.
Oh Karl, are you single cause I could lay on you all night long... Maybe that sounded dirty? :-)
Looks awesome! Oh yea, and I'm wallpapering at the end of the month. As soon as it comes in from a 2 month back order delay! Don't ask.
All your hard work has paid off, it looks great! Now I can't wait to see the bathroom!
Janice, how hard was it to bring all the ikea packages down your basement stairs? We are considering getting the Karlstad b/c it's modular but worry about the size fitting down our stairs.
It was super easy. Our stairs are about 26 inches wide and there were no issues. Worst case u could open each box and each piece would fit unassembled no problem. Good luck!
Gorgeous room! What a fabulous job. :)
YAY!!!! I love that you included the picture of you two on the couch. HAHAH
looking good so far
